Te Tomika Trust’s New Maara Kai, Supported by PowerCo

Group of people working together to plant seedlings in a raised garden bed.

Te Tomika Trust is proud to announce the opening of our new maara kai, made possible through the generous support of PowerCo. This project represents much more than a garden, it’s a place of learning, connection, and growth for our Tāngata whaiora and the wider community.

The maara kai will serve as an educational space where tāngata whaiora can gain hands on experience in sustainability, healthy kai choices, and self-sufficiency. By learning how to grow and harvest their own kai, tāngata whaiora will develop practical life skills while strengthening their connection to the whenua and to each other.

PowerCo’s funding has played a vital role in bringing our vision to life. Their support ensures that local vulnerable communities have the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive through meaningful engagement with the land. Together, we’re planting the seeds for a healthier, more sustainable le future.

At Te Tomika Trust, we believe that wellbeing starts from the group up. Nurturing not only our environment but also the wairua, tinana, and Hinengaro of our people. The Maara kai is a reflection of this Kaupapa: growing kai, growing knowledge, and growing community.
